How to Stop Health Overthinking: Shirdi Sai Baba’s guidance for health anxiety teaches that the body reflects the unrest of the mind. By practicing Saburi (Patience) and surrendering the ‘What Ifs’ to Baba, you break the cycle of fear and allow divine healing to take over.
Question from S. Akilandeswari from Pune, India
“My dearest Baba, I am always in fear about my health and my family’s health. I truly want to remove this fear from my mind forever and remain positive at all times. No matter how much I try, I keep returning to the same negative thoughts. Please show me the way to live a peaceful life, free from such negativity, and help me carry positivity in everything I do. I love You so much, Baba.”

Answer from our Sai Baba
Akilandeshwari beti, sit gently and read this with a soft heart. What you are describing is very common in sensitive, caring people. Fear for one’s own health and family does not mean lack of faith. It means your mind is always trying to protect what it loves.
Dil zyada zimmedar hota hai, isliye dar jaldi aa jaata (when the heart feels too responsible, fear comes easily)
First, understand this clearly.
Wanting to be positive all the time is not realistic. Even saints had moments of worry. Peace does not mean “no negative thoughts at all”. Peace means not fighting the thoughts and not believing every fear.
Dar aata hai, par uska malik banna zaroori nahi (fear comes, but it need not become your master)
Your mind has learned a habit of scanning for danger. This often happens when a person loves deeply and wants to protect everyone. The mind thinks fear will prevent loss, but actually it only creates exhaustion.
Now listen gently to the way forward.
You do not need to “remove” fear forcefully. You only need to change your relationship with it.
When a fearful thought comes, do not argue with it. Just say inside:
“Main dekh rahi hoon, par main is dar nahi hoon” (I see this fear, but I am not this fear)
This small distance weakens its hold.
dil ko sambhalo, fikr ko mehmaan samajh ke aane do, rehne mat do (steady your heart, treat worry like a guest, let it come but not stay)
Now about staying positive.
Positivity is not smiling all the time. It is choosing calm actions even when thoughts are noisy. Simple daily grounding helps more than forcing positivity.
Try these gentle habits:
Keep a simple routine
Walk or sit quietly for a few minutes daily
Limit overthinking time
Speak your worries to one trusted person
Take medical advice if anxiety affects sleep or body
Seeking help is wisdom, not weakness.
Madat ghenyaat laj nahi (there is no shame in taking help)
Your love for Baba is sincere, but remember, Baba never wanted devotees to live in fear. He wanted them strong, steady, and practical.
He would say in spirit:
“Why fear, when I am here, but do your part with courage.”
dhir dhara, man shant theva (hold patience, keep the mind calm)
You will not become peaceful in one day, and that is okay. Peace grows slowly, like a lamp that needs steady oil.
May your heart learn to rest, may your thoughts soften, and may your days be lived with quiet courage and trust.
Parvardigar tumhare mann ko shanti de, tumhe sahas aur santulan deta rahe. (May the Sustainer (God) grant peace to your mind, and may He continue to give you courage and balance.)
