Sai Baba Answers Daughter’s Prayers

Sai is an integral part of my life today. But it was not the case 10 years ago. Growing up in a South Indian Hindu family we were traditional and followed customs to a reasonable extent. I was also pious and religious as a child. However, throughout my childhood, I never heard of Sai. My parents were also not Sai devotees. The first time I went to a Sai temple was when I was in college with a friend to a Sai temple that was quite close to my hostel.

I met my husband in college and we became good friends. Our relationship evolved and we knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together by the time we finished college.

My husband is not a Hindu and although I was worried about my parents, I had a strong belief that my parents would understand and accept. Little did I know that I was about to embark on the most stressful and traumatic stage of my life. My life turned upside down when I shared my intentions of marrying my then-boyfriend (now husband). I saw a side of my parents that I never remotely imagined. Being a parent myself now, I can now relate that all of the actions were only to protect me from making a wrong decision. We waited for the next five years and I was introduced to Sai Baba when I worked close to the famous Chennai Mylapore Shirdi Sai temple. I became a regular there and I started reading the Satcharitra. I became an ardent devotee of Sai Baba. However, I did not have a relationship with my parents for the next 5 years and after waiting for 5 years we decided to get married by doing registration. My work gave me an opportunity to move abroad and we moved to the US right after we got married.

I traveled back to India and visited home the very next year alone. My parents were happy to see me but they never mentioned anything about my husband. Once I came back then my parents did not answer my call and estranged me again. I then decided to travel back home alone after two years and again they were happy to see me but this time they continued to keep in touch with me even after I got back. During this whole time of about 10 years, I was an ardent devotee of Sai Baba and my constant prayer was to get back the relationship of my parents. Finally, after 10 years my parents invited my husband for my brother’s wedding and it was so surreal to be experiencing what I have been praying for over a year. The most interesting Leela here is that I came to know that in the last ten years, my parents had also become ardent devotees of Baba. I strongly believe that it was Baba who reunited my parents with me and now my parents love my husband as much as they love me and this life is Baba’s gift to me. When we had our daughter my parents lived with us for many months and it gave us immense happiness to see them enjoy with our daughter.
