Sai Baba Grace In Early Diagnosis of Thyroid Cancer

Anonymous Shirdi Sai Baba Devotee from the USA says: I have lived in the US for the past 10 yrs. I’m a staunch devotee since 2008.

My father and mother were always devotees of Sai Baba. Though I accompanied them to Baba temples for several years and even to Shirdi, I prayed to Baba just like I did to any other God. But an incident that happened in my life changed everything forever, and I became a staunch devotee of my dear Baba. This life-changing incident occurred in 2008, and I will describe it in another devotee experience.

For me now, Baba is everything. Not a single day passes without me thinking of my Sairama, praying to Him, or even just uttering His name.

In 2014, after my first daughter was born, I went for a health check-up only in 2016, which showed everything to be normal. Then, in 2017, I did my bloodwork again as part of my annual health check-up routine. The results showed abnormal thyroid values. My India trip had been booked a couple of months earlier and was scheduled in 15 days. We decided to do another round of thyroid testing in India at my family endocrinologist’s clinic.

As soon as my parents took me to this clinic, I saw a big photo of Baba right in front of me and all over the place, as though Baba was telling me, “I am here for you and will take care of whatever comes.” I had a deep sense that something significant was coming my way and that I could not stop it.

The doctor saw me, touched my throat, and without saying much, ordered an ultrasound and biopsy, stating there was a small lump. At that time, only my daughter, my parents, and I were in India. My husband was due to arrive two days later. I took the tests and biopsy and waited for the results, constantly thinking of Baba.

Once my husband arrived, the results were ready. We picked them up and drove to the clinic. My father was driving, my husband sat in the front, and I sat in the back, looking at the reports but not revealing anything. The results clearly indicated a lump with measurements and the biopsy report mentioned terms like “papillary carcinoma.” I immediately searched those terms on Google and read about cancer. I was crying internally but didn’t show anything to my father or husband.

At the clinic, the doctor asked what initially seemed like a funny question: “Does your wife talk a lot?” My husband jokingly replied, “Yes, a LOT!” not knowing the context. The doctor then revealed the diagnosis. The lump was malignant. He explained everything about thyroid cancer, its type, prognosis, stage, and the necessity for a thyroidectomy (partial or total removal of the thyroid gland depending on how much it had spread).

Despite the gravity of the diagnosis, the doctor was surprised I had shown no symptoms. He scheduled the surgery, taking into account our return date to the U.S. My father and husband were both shocked and tense but said nothing, simply nodding at the doctor’s instructions.

Though I was crying deeply inside, I couldn’t show my emotions. I knew that if I did, both my father and husband would break down completely. So I kept a poker face and tried to comfort them. We decided to get a second opinion and ultimately opted to have the surgery in the U.S.

We returned to the U.S. with heavy hearts. We immediately contacted a doctor recommended by a family friend, who referred us to an endocrinologist. I underwent another series of tests and biopsies according to U.S. standards, which confirmed the malignancy. The endocrinologist referred us to a surgeon.

Everyone was surprised that I had no symptoms and everything surfaced all of a sudden. But Baba had ensured it was detected early at stage 0 and had guided us to act promptly. My surgery was scheduled. On the day of the surgery, my husband sat in the hospital lobby reading Sai Satcharitra the entire time.

After the surgery, the doctor informed us that a total thyroidectomy had been done, as cancer had spread to multiple lymph nodes around my throat. The doctor’s decision felt like Baba’s decision. Even during the recovery, Baba continued to reassure me through His constant presence in every clinic visit, whether in India or the U.S., I saw Him in some form.

Some may say seeing Baba’s photo in India is common, but in the U.S.? Every visit, I saw a “SAIA” sign or His image, a sign that Baba was telling me, “Everything will be alright. I’m with you.”

A few months after the surgery, I had to take a radioactive iodine pill to eliminate any remaining cancerous cells. I was isolated for two weeks to avoid exposing others to radiation.

Since 2018 until now, my Sairama has always been with me, comforting me and protecting me. I cannot express in words the love and gratitude I feel toward Baba for all He has done and continues to do for me and my family.

Thank You, Baba. You are everything to me. Please always stay with us and protect us. You are our one and only hope in this life. The mere belief that You are with us gives us the strength to keep going.

Love You Sairama! Om Sai Sri Sai Jai Jai Sai! Om Sairama!
