A Snowy Commute Home: A Tale Of Sai Baba’s Timely Help

Anonymous Shirdi Sai Baba Devotee from the USA says: My pranams to all of Sai Baba’s devotees around the world. I would like to share an incident that occurred in 2017 which demonstrates Sai’s grace and protection during a dangerous snowstorm.

Living in the northwest of the United States, we are accustomed to relatively mild winters, and as such, our cities are not fully equipped to handle heavy snowstorms. In 2017, we experienced an unexpected and severe snowstorm. It began as a flurry of snow around noon while I was at work. Soon after, the snow began to fall heavily, and people began leaving work early. By 1:30 pm, I decided to postpone my meetings and start driving home.

The freeway was jammed with traffic, so I drove for a while before deciding to take an earlier exit and drive through the smaller streets, thinking they would be less crowded. This was a grave error as the snow had begun to stick to the ground and freeze into ice, making the roads extremely slippery, and the brakes unresponsive. I found it challenging to maintain traction on my tires as I slowly tried to make my way through the icy streets. However, I continued to chant ‘Om Sai Shree Sai Jai Jai Sai’ all the way home, relying on Sai’s protection.

It took me an hour and thirty minutes to cover a short distance, and I still had a long way to go. Despite the hazardous driving conditions, I felt Sai’s grace with me throughout the journey.

As I was driving through the neighborhoods, I soon realized that the roads were very icy and slippery, with a steep uphill. I had to drive very slowly to avoid any mishaps. However, on one uphill road, I had to stop for a moment due to a car ahead of me. At that time, my tires froze on the ice, and when I tried to start again, the car wouldn’t move. I was stuck in the middle of the street! Desperately seeking help, I chanted “Sai, Sai” repeatedly. I even got out of the car to try and scrape off the ice but to no avail. Fortunately, two people happened to be walking by and offered to help me by pushing my car.

After making it to the end of the road, I approached the main road as it was getting darker. Though there was still some daylight, the main road was much busier and steeper. Despite the difficulties, I managed to make it onto the main road while constantly calling out to Sai. He was my only hope. I called my husband, who was unable to leave due to speaking with customers, and warned my daughter not to drive back in her own car, arranging for another parent to pick her up with the other girls. I also kept calling my mother-in-law, who was alone at home and panicking.

But my troubles weren’t over yet. As I was driving on the main road, my car got stuck badly in the snow on a steep road, blocking all the traffic behind me. A kind man from the Department of transportation services tied a rope to my car and tried to pull it. However, my car started sliding wildly from side to side, with me inside. I screamed and called out to Baba a few times. I even almost hit a car parked on the side of the road. Finally, the man managed to pull me out and helped me turn into my housing complex. At that moment, I felt as though Sai Himself had come to my rescue!

My house is situated up a hill, further inside from the entrance. As they said they were too busy to help me all the way inside, I slowly made my way up the hill. About 50 feet ahead of me, a truck was trying to turn and come down the road but started slipping due to the icy road. It was coming sliding towards my car. I screamed Sai Baba’s name. Just within a few feet ahead of my car, the driver managed to gain control, get his truck away from my car and drive away, narrowly missing my car. Thank goodness!

At this point, I thanked Sai Baba and decided not to drive beyond that point. I remembered that my friend’s family lived a few houses down from there. I called her and she said her husband would come to get me. Luckily, he was home and came out in the snowstorm, and helped me park my car on the slope of an icy road. I managed to get out and walked to their home. It was well below freezing and I was shivering. She asked me to stay until we could find a safe way to get me home. I will be forever grateful for their help.

In another half an hour, a friend of theirs drove by in his big truck with a 4-wheel drive that would be safer in the snow. He lived close to our house and offered to drop me off. I reached home more than 4 hours after I left work (on a normal day it would be no more than 30 minutes)!

My husband left work after that but I asked him to stay on the freeway. He came very slowly all the way into our neighborhood, but one street away, a tree had fallen, blocking the road. So he had to park his car somewhere and walk home in the freezing snowstorm. At least he reached home safely a couple of hours after me. By now it was dark outside.

Our daughter was stuck in traffic, thankfully with friends and a parent driving the car. The traffic was so slow. Finally, at around 8 PM they made it to a Starbucks coffee shop on a main road and decided to go in and get some food and drink. Another parent brought her to our complex and my husband went walking to the entrance to bring her back home. It was 9:30 PM when everyone was back home safely. All of us had left our cars at various places which we then collected a couple of days later.

I have no doubt that Sai Baba was watching over us and holding our hands to make sure each of us reached home safely that day. There are no words to thank Him for His mercy, protection, and kindness. Sai Baba, please bless us to follow in Your path and Your teachings. That is the only way to say Thank You! Om Sai Ram!

A PhD Student’s Journey: From A Conference To An Internship Opportunity

Anonymous Shirdi Sai Baba Devotee from India says: Pranams also to the administrators of this blog who work tirelessly behind the scenes to meticulously publish these articles. Dear devotees, each time I have an experience to share in this Holy Blog of Hetal Madam, I feel it may be my last, but then Sai Baba provides another experience, coaxing me to continue.

The experiences below concern my daughter, ‘M.’

  1. Her Ph.D. thesis got published in a highly-rated scientific journal.

M sent her research paper to the journal in April 2022 after consulting her Professor’s Guide. Within a month, the editors sent the opinion of ‘peer reviewers,’ of which one suggested the collection of more data through further experiments. The other two found only some grammatical errors, which, when corrected, would make the paper acceptable for publication. Afterward, M got busy with the experiments, attending conferences (both in Japan & Paris), as mentioned in the previous experience. It was only in August that she managed to finish the collection of required data & correct grammatical errors. On August 23rd, she finally submitted to the journal online. Out of curiosity, she asked her guide how long the journal editors usually take to publish the paper after it met all the required criteria. Her boss replied that it may take a minimum of 45 days. However, the very next day (24th August), the editors of the journal emailed her that her paper was ‘Accepted for Publication,’ with her name as the first author, in the August issue itself! Even her boss could not believe it. My daughter was overjoyed because publication of the thesis paper as the first author was the main criterion for the award of Ph.D. in Japanese Universities.

Though her boss initially told her to write the thesis and make a few hard copies, the University clarified that she need not do that. This came as a great relief because she was lazy to write the thesis, and it was going dead slow. If this is not Sai Baba’s miracle, what else is it?

  1. She secured a travel grant to present her Ph.D. research paper at a prestigious scientific conference in the USA.

Since her conference registration fee was waived by 50% because she won a Quiz Competition at the Paris Conference, she was keen to present her paper at this prestigious scientific conference in the USA, to be held in mid-November 2022. But before that, the scientific committee of the Conference had to scrutinize and approve her paper to ensure it met the required standard. In no time, the Conference Organizers communicated their approval. After that, a private funding agency sanctioned her a travel grant. Her boss was very helpful in securing this grant.

  1. The paper she presented was selected for a ‘Special Award.’

These successes sent ‘M’ into a sort of holiday mood, and she spent most of the weekends in October with her friends’ sightseeing and dining, especially in Indian restaurants that her Japanese friends liked very much. The University had finished the formalities of booking her flights and hotel accommodation for her U.S. Conference. With the Conference just three weeks away, the organizers sent her an email to inform her that her paper had been adjudged for a ‘Special Award’ of 2500 US dollars for a young scientist! Furthermore, she was given the privilege of presenting her paper on the evening of the first day of the conference (12/10/22) in front of some distinguished scientists. Needless to say, she was in seventh heaven.

  1. An unexpected internship opportunity fully sponsored by the Japanese University came my way, that too in the same city, San Diego, California, where the conference was held!

A professor working in an adjacent lab in Japan, where I am pursuing my Ph.D., was looking for a suitable candidate for a short-term internship to explore the possibility of a collaborative project with a professor at the University of California, San Diego. He contacted my boss, who promptly advised me to grab the chance since it would be fully sponsored by the Japanese University. I immediately contacted that professor and expressed my willingness and acceptance.

Soon, the US professor conducted a video interview to assess me and, after being satisfied, accepted and allowed me to do a short-term internship in her lab. Since I was extremely busy until mid-November, I could not decide on the exact nature of the work/training right away. She suggested that I go ahead with visa formalities with the US embassy in Japan by giving an official permission letter in her name, which made the visa processing very smooth.

All this happened just 20 days prior to my departure from the US conference! I am short of words to express my gratitude for Sai (Sri) Ram’s unexpected grace. I end this post with a prayer that Sai (Sri) Ram’s grace be showered on all the devotees who read this experience.

Below are a few more experiences where Baba helped me in times of need. Baba, please bless me to write all Your blessings, as promised to You. I seek Your forgiveness for sharing some experiences late.

  1. Thank You, Baba, for blessing me to solve our organization head’s issue. I received a call from my head that our organization head was facing some problem, and I was not aware of what it was. So, I prayed to Baba to bless me to resolve his issue before entering his cabin, and that he should be satisfied. Baba blessed me, and the issue was resolved.
  1. Baba, thank You for giving health to our female dog. She was continuously coughing for many days, and then I prayed to Baba that I would share His Leela on this holy site if her coughing stopped.
  1. Baba, because of Your blessings, I could successfully complete the data restoration activity on time. Without Your blessings, this couldn’t have happened.
  1. Baba blessed me on my Shirdi visit. Recently, I visited Shirdi after three long years, and for the first time, I visited alone. But at every step, Baba guided and protected me. I don’t have words to explain Baba’s blessings. Baba, I want to come again. Please bless me with a blissful Shirdi visit again, with my life partner and family.
  1. Baba helped us to give all our baby dogs to good people. Please bless them and all pets with good health and happiness. Baba, we lost two pets because of a viral infection, but please protect our remaining pets.
  1. Baba helped me with an office issue where I had not signed one document. That document was taken by our auditing team. When I came to know about this, I prayed to Baba to return that document without any issue, and I promised to share His blessings here. Baba blessed me again. Thank You, Baba, for all Your blessings.
  1. Baba, again, one more office issue has occurred this week, and You know what it is. Please bless me so that it will go unnoticed.

Baba, You are my mother, and I am Your child. You know my wishes and desires. You bless me with what You think is good for me. Always keep Your blessing hand on my family and all Your devotees. Never leave my hand, Baba. I need You in every second of my life. Thank You, Baba.

A Devotee’s Prayer For The Well-Being Of Their Family

Anonymous Shirdi Sai Baba Devotee from India says: Dear devotees, I want to express my gratitude to Hetalji mam and her team for maintaining such a divine interactive platform. Please accept my apologies for the late post. I ask for Baba’s forgiveness for all my mistakes and humbly request him to accept me as His devotee.

Recently, my brother had some issues with his contractor regarding the cost, as he was asking for more money than expected. Although it eventually came to a smooth conclusion, it wasn’t completely resolved. I hope that the situation resolves itself soon.

Baba, I pray that You take care of my brother’s good health and longevity. Please also take care of my mother’s and sister’s longevity and good health, as well as my two little kids.

Om Sai Rakshak Sharanam Deva. Om Sai Rakshak Sharanam Deva. Om Sai Rakshak Sharanam Deva.

A Mother’s Experience Of Sai Baba’s Blessings At The Wembley Temple

Anonymous Shirdi Sai Baba Devotee from the UK says: Sai Baba never leaves His devotees, especially those who suffer alone. One day, my son and I decided to visit the Sai temple in Wembley, UK, which takes around 2 hours to reach by train. However, on the way, my son suddenly developed a toothache. As we arrived at the temple, I found it hard to pray peacefully with my son in pain. In the same neighborhood, there was a Siva temple, so we decided to visit that temple as well. Unfortunately, my son’s toothache became more intense, and he started crying. I didn’t know what to do, so we left the temple quickly, finishing our prayers.

I was worried about how we would make it back home as it was a long journey with two train changes. However, by the time we reached the railway station, my son started to feel better, and his toothache had miraculously subsided. It was like a blessing from Sai Baba. Since he was feeling okay, I took him to a restaurant where he ate idly without any discomfort.

I am grateful to Sai Baba for not letting my son leave Wembley, one of Sai Baba’s abodes in the UK, in pain or with an empty stomach. Baba’s blessings and love were with us and will always be with us. I am sharing this experience with others to spread the message of Sai Baba’s love and compassion. Bow to Shri Sai, and peace be to all.
